4.6.1　Stage 1:Initial Analysis of Public Documents

The preliminary procedure of identifying synoptic institutional and disciplinary culture was interpreted from the perspective of public documents, that is, the University Strategic Plan 2010-2015, Global Strategy 2020, and module curricula.These documents disclosed the institutional events and signaled value orientation distribution in both the university and the School of IC.I carried out a general descriptive interpretation of the previous two types of documentary data in a relatively straightforward manner to examine the content and message conveyed, and how the messages represented the culture.To do so, I formatted the documents in a readable written form, identified salient disciplinary events and value orientation, and then described how these events reflect the institutional and disciplinary culture.Next, I synthesised the module curricula from the four years in the School of IC, in order to explore the disciplinary values and the expected learning outcomes stated in those documents.
