1.5 Case Study:Your Routine Work案例研究:你的日常工作

Let’s examine your routine work through a case.

Case:A US outdoor retailer has ordered 1,000 tents and required shipment be made before Oct.20thfrom the Port of Qingdao to the Port of Long Beach.

♦If you are an independent exporter with the right for import and export,your routines include tasks as follows:

1.Around Oct.10th,you phone/fax the freight forwarder to book the shipping space and get your goods to the designated location(warehouse)as required by the forwarder.

2.Prepare a set of invoices and packing lists and send them to the freight forwarder together with a letter or authorization for inspection and customs clearance,authorizing which to the forwarder.However,you may also complete inspection and customs clearance on your own.

3.Get the bill of lading from the forwarder once the latter receives the goods and completes the customs formalities; prepare another set of invoices and packing lists as well as other documents required by the importer.

4.Notify the importer of the shipment of goods and ask for payment;send the whole set of documents to the importer,often through the banking system.

5.Around 10 days after shipment,you receive the copy of customs clearance form for tax refund returned by the Customs(transferred by the forwarder)and you give it to the accountant for filing for tax refund.

6.Work done.

♦If you are collaborating with a trading agency,your routines are as follows:

1.Notify the agency of the order.

2.Around Oct.10th,notify the agency that “the goods are ready”.

3.Get the goods to the designated location(warehouse)as required by the agency.

4.Work done.Payment,once received from the importer,will be converted to RMB and credited into your bank account by the agency.This is the case when no inspection or quota is required,otherwise,inspection has to be completed and quota obtained before Oct.10th.Now you may have got an overview of the export procedures.
