7.1.4.5 Freight prepaid & freight collect bill...
♦Freight prepaid bill of lading运费预付提单
A sales contract sometimes requires that the B/L be marked“freight prepaid”,the reason being that,in case the sale is under CIF,the importer wants to make sure that the freight has already been paid by the exporter(usually the shipper)and that the carrier will not attempt to claim freight from the importer or exercise a lien on the merchandise at the port of destination.
If the importer pays by letter of credit, bankers normally only accept a transport document with words expressly indicating whether or not the freight has been paid, such as with a stamp of “Freight Prepaid”or “Freight Collect”,or with the information indicated by other means.
♦Freight collect bill of lading运费到付提单
A freight-collect B/L is one under which the freight is to be paid at the port of destination such as in the case of an FOB-based transaction.
