7.1.4.3 Order,straight and bearer bill of lading指示提单,记名提单和持有人提单

♦Order bill of lading指示提单

An order B/L states that delivery is to be made to the order of someone, who could be the shipper, the consignee,a related bank, the carrier, etc.,or sometimes just “to order”,which usually indicates “to order of the shipper”.A common expression used for naming the consignee is “to × or his/her order”“to the order of ×”.

♦Straight bill of lading记名提单

A straight B/L states explicitly the consignee of the merchandise without using words like “to order”and therefore is non-negotiable.Under a straight B/L,the carrier delivers the shipment to the consignee against presentation of identification. It is used mostly when the goods have been paid for or when payment is not required(such as in the case of donations or gifts).

♦Bearer bill of lading持有人提单

A bearer B/L is one on which no consignee is named so that delivery is to be made to the bearer of the B/L,namely,whomever holds the bill.Understandably,it is seldom used due to huge risk involved.
