As the exporter ,you probably want to get paid sooner,preferably by advanced payment.The importer,however,may wish for a deferred payment method.Cash in advance and open account represent these two extremes in the timing of payment,with the former most favorable to you,the exporter,and the latter to the importer.There are possibilities in between,but the extremes may help you appreciate the crux of international payment.
