10.1.4 Classification of Bills of Exchange 汇票的分类
♦Sight(demand)bill & time(usance)bill即期付款汇票和远期付款汇票
Depending on the tenor,a bill may be a sight bill or a time bill.If the bill is payable on demand,meaning immediately when asked to pay,it is a sight bill.If it is due to pay at a later but fixed or determinable date,say in 30,60,or 90 days,it is a time bill.
♦Clean bill & documentary bill光票汇票和跟单汇票
A clean bill is one without any documents attached,while a documentary bill is one with other documents attached.The documents may include:shipping documents(bill of lading,packing list,etc.),commercial documents(mainly commercial invoice),and sometimes insurance documents.A documentary bill is mostly applied to merchandise trade,while a clean bill to small amount of payment or service trade,etc.
♦Commercial bill and banker’s bill商业汇票和银行汇票
Depending on the drawer,a bill of exchange can be a commercial bill(trader’s bill)or a banker’s bill.A commercial bill is drawn by a firm to a bank or another firm as the drawee.A banker’s bill is drawn by a bank to another bank as the drawee.
♦Commercial accepted bill & banker’s accepted bill商业承兑汇票和银行承兑汇票
If a bill is accepted,depending on the acceptor,it can be a commercial accepted bill or a banker’s accepted bill.A bill that is accepted by a firmis a commercial accepted bill and one accepted by a bank is a banker’s accepted bill.As bank credit is generally believed to be more trustworthy than a commercial credit,a banker’s accepted bill is more popular than a commercial accepted bill.
