When you plan to ship the goods,normally you contact a freight forwarder to book the shipping space on a ship,or charter an entire ship when necessary.The freight forwarder then gives you a form to fill out as your instruction for the shipment,which might include basic information about the shipment and your requirement for shipping,such as the number and size of containers you need.Most of the information shall be used for issuing the bill of lading later on,so you must treat it with care when you fill out this form,especially with the consignee box and the freight box.Once the cargo is loaded on board the ship,you shall be issued the bill of lading.Figure 13-14 is a sample instruction for cargo transport by sea and Figure 13-15 a sample bill of lading.For a detailed introduction to a bill of lading,see Chapter 7.
