Guidance to the English Reading and Writing Course
The English Reading and Writing Course is tailor-made for freshmen.It consists of 24 lectures and will take the forms of individual work, pair work, group work, and presentations.If you have passed English Placement Level 5 or higher, you could apply for admission to this course.
The aim of this course is to improve reading skills and writing abilities.To be specif ic, this course is going to foster students’ abilities as follows:
● skimming and scanning over materials;
● recognizing the differences between general statements and supporting comments;
● understanding a text by writing a clear, concise summary;
● developing some practical writing skills.
In addition, students should master the format of practical writing, i.e.business letters, which includes:
● headline;
● salutation;
● body;
● complimentary ending;
● signature.
Regular class participation is required.In each class, students will be called upon to read, write,and discuss reading and writing assignments.Please be well prepared before attending the class and take an active part in discussion.You are encouraged to read reference books, have access to other related sources and bring questions to the class.
All students are expected to show respect for the teacher and other students.For example,students should listen carefully and patiently while other students are making presentations.
