句式 whether it be是较正规和典雅的说法;在现代英语中，一般用whether it is…:
I swear to treat my wife well whether we be/arein prosperity or in adversity．我发誓要好好对待我的妻子，无论我们遇上好景或厄运。

句式 know of表示“知道有(某人或某事)”，know则作“认识”解。

又如hear和hear of都有“听见”之意，但前者含有“直接听到”的意味;后者则含有“间接听见”的意思。
