二、词类的转换
在翻译过程中，要做到既忠实于原文又符合译文语言规范，就不能机械地按原文词类“对号入座”，逐字硬译，而需要适当改变一些词类：即把原文中属于某种词类的词在译文中转换成另一种词类。这就是翻译上通常所说的“词类转换”。
词类转换是汉译英中很重要的方法之一，运用得当，可使译文通顺流畅；符合英语习惯，否则译文可能显得生硬累赘。现将汉译英时最常见的词类转换现象介绍如下：
1 汉语的动词转换成英语的名词
汉语中动词用得较多，除大量的动宾结构外，还有连动式、兼语式等两个以上动词连用的现象。而英语则不然，一句话往往只用一个谓语动词，而且英语的名词也比汉语的名词用得多。由于两种语言各自所具有的这种特点，汉译英时常常需要把汉语动词转换成英语名词。有时，随着汉语动词的这种转换，修饰该动词的副词也自然需要转换。例如：
人们要想得到工作的胜利即得到预想的结果，就要使自己的思想符合客观外界的规律性，如果不符合，就会在实践中失败。（对外经济贸易大学2007年真题）
If a man wants to succeed in his work，that is，to achieve the anticipated results，he must bring his ideas into correspondence with the laws of the objective external world；if they do not correspond，he will fail in his practice.
2 汉语的动词转换成英语的形容词
汉语中一些表示知觉、情感等心理状态的动词，往往可以转换成英语形容词，例如：
我认为这标志着进化进入了一个非常重要的阶段，使一个物种首次有能力掌握了自身命运。（复旦大学2008年真题）
I think this marks that evolution has stepped into a crucial phase in which a species is capable of mastering his own destiny for the first time.
对于现代科学活动的规模，利用最佳的思想和提供适宜的“熔炉”，已经可以在国际上很好地得以实现。（哈尔滨工业大学2001年真题）
By employing the optimal thought and proper melting pot，it is possible to conduct large scale scientific research internationally.
3 汉语的动词转换成英语的介词或介词词组
与汉语相比，英语用介词较多，而且有一些英语介词本是由动词演变而来的，具有动词的特征。因此在汉译英时，汉语的一些动词常常可译为英语的介词或介词词组。例如：(https://www.daowen.com)
中国有着悠久的文明，一直促进国际交流并热爱世界和平。（复旦大学2010年真题）
With a long civilization，China is always in favor of international exchange and loves world peace.
4 汉语的形容词或副词转换成英语的名词
在汉译英时，有时出于语法结构和修辞上的需要，也可以把汉语的一些形容词或副词转译成英语的名词。例如：
科学家是一群努力洞悉自然，杂乱无序的表面下寻求规律的人。（武汉大学2009年真题）
Scientists are a small group of people who strive to gain insights into nature，seeking order in seeming disorderliness.
人体移植器官非常短缺。（西安交通大学2010年真题）
There are incredible shortages of organ transplants for humans.
5 汉语的名词转换成英语的动词
在汉译英中，比较普遍的现象是汉语的动词转换成为英语的名词。但也有相反的情况，即汉语的名词转换为英语的动词。与此同时，原来修饰该名词的形容词也常随之而转换成英语的副词，作为状语来修饰由汉语名词转换成的英语动词。例如：
这条道路的特点是：在发展人权的基本方向上，坚持发展生产力和共同富裕的原则，立足于改善全国人民的生活和促进全国人权的发展。（武汉大学2010年真题）
This path is characterized as follows.In the basic direction of promoting human rights，we persist on the principle of developing productive force and common prosperity，for the aim to improve the living and promoting the development of human rights nationwide.
