九、强调结构

强调结构主要就是指“It is/wasthat”句式。理解这个句式需要考生注意以下3点：

（1）本结构只有两种时态，即is和was的形式，没有完成时。

（2）本结构不能强调谓语动词，也就是is或was后面不能出现谓语动词。

（3）It is/wasthat没有任何语法作用，只起到加强语气的作用，也就是说，把“It is/wasthat”去掉后剩下的内容应该是一个完整的句子。例如：It is you that help me.把It is和that去掉，就剩下you help me，正好是一个句子，本句强调的是主语。再例如：It is you that we love.把It is和that去掉，剩下you和we love，调整语序后，变为：we love you，强调的是宾语。所以，即使It is/was后出现复数名词，也不可以把is/was变为are/were。

在阅读强调句时，为了理解句意，可以把“It is/wasthat”去掉，然后把剩下的部分连接成句。请看下面的例句。

例1：Perhaps it is humankind’s long suffering at the mercy of flood and drought that makes the idea of forcing the waters to do our bidding so fascinating.(https://www.daowen.com)

【句式解析】把句中的it is和that去掉，剩下的部分是humankind’s long suffering at the mercy of flood and drought和makes the idea of forcing the waters to do our bidding so fascinating，这两者之间是主谓关系。

【译文】也许是因为人类长期饱受洪水和干旱之苦，所以使得他们想尽办法来协调水源的想法十分具有吸引力。

例2：Thus，in the American economic system it is the demand of individual consumers，coupled with the desire of businessmen to maximize profits and the desire of individuals to maximize their incomes，that together determines what shall be produced and how resources are used to produce it.

【句式解析】在本句中，coupled with the desire这个过去分词短语在两个逗号之间，是插入成分，所以首先应当忽略。简缩出句子主干it is the demand of individual consumers that together determines后，可以看出这是个强调句型，然后再把it is和that去掉，剩下的结构为“the demand of individual consumers determines what shall be produced and how resources are used to produce it”。其中，what shall be produced是determines的宾语从句，and后是连接副词how，所以how引导的从句和前面的what从句并列，也是determines的宾语从句。在插入成分中，and后的the desire和前面的the desire of businessmen并列，都是with的宾语。

【译文】因此，在美国的经济体系中，正是客户的需求、商家实现利益最大化的愿望和个人希望工资最大化的愿望，一起决定了生产产品的种类和如何使用资源来生产这些产品。
