2.6　Cultural Awareness in Subtitling

Nida once pointed out that language is a part of culture; all types of text will reflect relative culture directly or indirectly,and,furthermore,the meanings inherent in terms and phrases are all to be found finally in its relative culture.Therefore,the difference between cultures is naturally embodied in the respective languages (1993: 28).(https://www.daowen.com)

In her recent study on AVT,Chai (2001) referred to three concepts from the perspective of cultural awareness in the context of E-C subtitling: the reconstruction,modification and transition of cultural image.Her suggestions regarding these three points have aroused my interest in terms of the importance of cultural elements in the subtitling translation.
