◎Yan Yangchu’s Former Residence

Yan Yangchu,a famous educator and master of rural construction in modern China,was known as“the father of the world’s common people’s education movement.”In 1926,he started experiments in rural common people’s education in Dingxian County,Hebei Province (present-day Dingzhou City).His former residence is a courtyard house located in the south of Zhongshan East Road.The houses are all in the brick-and-wood structure,the roofs are ridged and tiled,and the bearing parts are four beams and eight columns.The courtyard house is a typical residential house in Northern China.

The only existing part of his former residence is the West Courtyard.According to relevant documents and materials,local authorities have restored the whole picture of Yan Yangchu’s former residence,and are carrying forward Mr.Yan Yangchu’s education thought through the ancient buildings,objects,photos,documents and other carriers to build a base of China’s common people’s education.
