4.1.5 Maintenance,Repair and Inspection of Aerial Devices with Insulating Booms

1.Maintenance of the Aerial Devices with Insulating Booms

Maintenance during transportation. The work bucket must be returned to the driving position. For the aerial devices with insulating booms with boom, the boom shall be removed or fully retracted, the upper and lower arms shall be restored to their respective support frames, and must be fixed firmly to prevent impact and damage due to shaking during transportation.During the travel of the aerial devices with insulating booms, the hydraulic operating system of the two arms must be shut off to prevent the hydraulic balance device of the working bucket from swinging back and forth.

When the aerial devices with insulating booms is exposed to the open air environment, the insulation tolerance level will be reduced for the insulation properties of the insulating working bucket and boom affected by rain, road dust, corrosion and other air pollution.Long-term UV exposure also affects its insulation properties. Therefore,a moisture-proof protective cover shall be used for protection during transportation.

2.Maintenance of Aerial Devices with Insulating Booms

(1)General requirements.A set of periodic inspection procedures for aerial devices with insulating booms must be established, including detailed visual inspection and insulation strength tests.

(2)Cleaning.Where the surface of the insulating part is contaminated with small dirt, the dirt can be wiped with a lint-free cloth.Where the insulating part is very dirty,high-pressure hot water(with the temperature not exceeding 50°C and the pressure not exceeding 690 kPa)can be used to rinse.

(3)Silicon coating. The insulating surface should be cleaned and dried before applying silicon.

3.Check

The inspection of the aerial devices with insulating booms includes visual inspection and function test.

The visual inspection of the insulating parts shall be carried out after the outer surface is cleaned;the upper and lower booms, working bucket, and crane jib must be wiped with a lint-free cloth, and can be gently wiped with a clean cloth dampened with a little isopropyl alcohol or other suitable solvent if necessary. The visual inspection is mainly for structural damage.Structural damage includes insulation breakdown due to impact, bare fiber, holes and grooves, crack marks caused by collisions with sharp objects such as branches and poles, and cracks, bulges, etc.that occur at the upper and lower arm joints or near the steel joint portion due to overloading.

(1)Inspection before work

The purpose of the inspection is to eliminate defects and malfunctions that may have been left in the pre-work of the aerial devices with insulating booms and during inventory. The visual inspection is mainly carried out by the operator, and supplemented with function test, aiming to listening to whether the components have abnormal noise.

Inspect and confirm that the insulation test of the insulation parts of the aerial devices with insulating booms is within the validity period.

①Entire inspection(https://www.daowen.com)

The visual inspection and function test must be completed before official start of work, and the results of the inspection shall be recorded in the form of a chart.

Visual inspection:Inspect the damage of the surface of the insulation parts, such as cracks, insulation peeling, and deep scratches.

Function test:After starting the aerial devices with insulating booms, the lower control system should be used to operate the expansion arm expansion, rotation and work bucket lifting cycle in the case where the working bucket is unmanned,to check for fluid seepage, hydraulic cylinder leaks, abnormal noise, failure, oil leakage, unstable motion or other faults.

In order to ensure the safety, the flexibility and reliability of each power supply and emergency braking system should be checked and operated, and visual and audible alarms should be verified.

For aerial devices with insulating booms with ultra high voltage class and above, the grading ring must be inspected when it is used in the equipotential working part to conform the equipotential point and perform leakage current test.

②Working bucket inspection

Inspect the bottom plate of the working bucket for dirt or other objects that may damage the work bucket,or objects that interfere with the bottom plate and the conductive shoes in the case of equipotential operation.

Inspect the mechanical damage of working bucket, whether there are holes, cracks or delamination, and wipe the working bucket with a soft,lint-free cloth with suitable solvent, and remove the debris and peeling material from the working bucket.

(2)Weekly inspection

The aerial devices with insulating booms should be inspected weekly.

①Entire inspection.Including the visual inspection and function test.

②Inspection of working bucket. The inner working bucket must be taken out from the outer working bucket to clean the dirt up.In case of damage or peeling,it is necessary to identify that the damage or peeling is caused by mechanical damage or chemical factors.Any mechanical damage will reduce the wall thickness of the inner working bucket.Where the wall thickness is less than the minimum wall thickness recommended by the manufacturer, the inner and outer working buckets must be electrically tested before reuse.

(3)Regular inspection. The regular inspection cycle can be determined based on manufacturer's recommendations and other influencing factors such as operating conditions, maintenance levels, and environmental conditions. In general, the maximum period of normal periodic inspection should be 1 year.
