14.2.6 Inspecting the Cargo进口检验

Once picking up the goods, you must check and inspect them carefully. If any problems should be found with the quality, quantity, packing, etc.,you must have them reinspected by a mutually agreedupon or reputable inspection authority or service, obtain the inspection certificates in time, and make a claim or claims within the prescribed period as per the contract.Don’t forget that goods subject to a statutory inspection must be inspected by the inspection and quarantine authority under the Customs at the port of discharge or the final destination, otherwise they are not allowed to be sold or used.Goods not in the list for statutory inspection might be spot checked by the inspection authority as well, and must be rectified, returned or destroyed if problems are found, depending on the seriousness of the problems.

In order to make a claim within the prescribed period, goods under the following circumstances must be inspected at the port of discharge:The contract requires so; you are obliged to make payment on condition that the goods pass the inspection; the contract allows a short valid period for making claims; or the cargo is found damaged,short-delivered or abnormal upon discharge. In the absence of the above circumstances and in case your company is far from the port, the goods can be transferred to your company’s premise for checking and acceptance. In so doing,if you should find any problems with the goods, ask your local inspection authority for reinspection immediately so that the claim can be made within the valid period.
