8.1　Research findings

Our purposes of the present research are:(1)To illustrate how translators construe image-G in source text in the process of image-G actualization;(2)To explain how translators construct image-G in target text based on the construal of that in source text in the process of image-G actualization;(3)To identify cognitive translation strategies adopted by translators in the process of image-G actualization and their cognitive motivations.

Through systematic and thorough analysis,major founding are presented as follows:

(1)Translators'operation on image-G actualization in literary translation is divided into two step:First,translators'construal of image-G in source text and second,translators'construction of image-G in target text.The former conforms to the cognitive procedure of“embodiment→cognition→linguistic representation”.To be specific,at first,translators'aesthetic embodiment provides the experiential basis for their construal of image-G.Second,five Gestalt principles of perceptual organization in Gestalt psychology are served as guidelines in translators'recognition of image-G in source text,namely,principles of closure,continuity,similarity,proximity and symmetry.Then,five construal dimensions are adopted in the process of translators'construal of recognized image-G,which are specificity,prominence,perspective and metaphor respectively.At last,various cognitive means are applied by translators in their conceptualization of image-G representation at lexical,sentential and textual levels.(https://www.daowen.com)

(2)Translators then correspondingly construct image-G in target text in accordance with the original one in source text.There are generally four categories of corresponding relations between the constructed image-G in target text and the original one in source text involving complete correspondence,inclusive correspondence,crossed correspondence,and disrelation,among which,the first one is ideal type and the rest are non-ideal types of image-G actualization.

(3)Five major cognitive translation strategies could be employed by translators to take effect on image-G actualization of specific corresponding relations in their practical operation.The first is image-G preservation strategy,motivated by the analogous substitution of equivalent prototype categories,is suitable for the type of inclusive correspondence.The second is image-G reinforcement strategy,motivated by internalization of poetic cultural cognitive models,is also applicable for the type of inclusive correspondence.The third is image-G restructuring strategy,motivated by reappearance of image-G based on discourse intertextuality of Gestalt attributes,can be certified with the crossed corresponding type.The fourth is image-G accretion strategy,motivated by supplement of semantic slots of default value,can be vindicated by the non-correspondence type.The fifth is image-G modulation strategy,motivated by adaption of image-G based on composite deployment of different scenario/scene modes,is appropriate for the type of inclusive correspondence.
