8.2 Research limitations and research prospects
It should be noted that there is still much room for the perfection of this research.For one thing,the validity of five types of cognitive translation strategies of image-G actualization in literary works proposed by the present research has yet to be further examined,complemented and detailed.Despite the fact that the cognitive motivations and practical feasibility of these five types of cognitive translation strategies of image-G actualization have been demonstrated by in-depth analysis of several translation cases,more empirical cases of literary translation may be required so as to make more comprehensive and systematic interpretation.In addition,it seems that more other types of cognitive translation strategies have yet to be set up.For another,the selected cases of literary translation in present research are inadequate for the amount of quantity and variety.Some essential factors concerned with image-G actualization in literary translation remain further in-depth study,such as research on literary allusion,narrative framework,semantic framing,and typological shift.Especially,other research methods are expected to be employed in the follow-up study of this research,such as quantitative research methods and empirical research methods.(https://www.daowen.com)
The future research can be carried out from two aspects of theoretical basis and practical application.Like other translation studies conducted from cognitive perspective,the research on image-G actualization in literary translation could be undoubtedly enriched and strengthened by introducing the neighboring fields within the cognitive sciences.For instance,some empirical research methods could be introduced to verify the application effects of translation cognitive processing and mechanism proposed in this book on translation process of image-G actualization,such as think-aloud method,the identification method of eye reference position,and positron emission tomography scans.In more general terms,as a essential item that has got to be construed by translators in literary translation,image-G embodies cognitive structures which are context-dependent and culture-dependent.When it comes to the cognitive regulation of practical translation in image-G actualization,the constraints imposed by these cognitive structures not only lie in linguistic aspects,but also rest on aesthetic,economic and ideological nature.Thus further studies could be undertaken to make hypotheses on these cognitive elements pertaining to either the text or the context.They will facilitate translators in going beyond automatic or routine TL solutions,necessitating problem-solving of complex issues and setting up decision-making approach.In addition,although descriptive translation studies have conventionally concentrated on issues related to the production,reception and impact of literary translation,research on translation cognitive processing and mechanism are expected to be extended to research field of particular nonliterary genre.It would help to establish a comparison system of knowledge repository for image-G between English and Chinese language and make a comparative study of knowledge systems of image-G between two languages.In that case,it could serve as reference and guidance for the development of machine translation based on the contrastive knowledge repository for image-G between two languages.
