Section V Ancient Books on Pu’er Tea
China has a long history of tea cultivation.In the long-term development, people have conducted in-depth exploration and research on growing and drinking tea, and written a large number of tea monographs.The Classic of Tea written by Lu Yu in the Tang Dynasty, Zhao Ji’s Grand View of Tea in the Song Dynasty, Zhu Quan’s Tea Book in the Ming Dynasty, Liu Yuanchang’s History of Tea in the Qing Dynasty, and Lu Tingcan’s Follow-Up of The Classic of Tea are all very representative tea books.Pu’er tea, as an important part of Chinese tea, once became an important economic crop supporting the economic and social development of Yunnan border areas.However,there are few documents about Pu’er tea in many tea works of past dynasties.
Among the historical documents about Pu’er tea, historical annals account for the main part.From Fan Chao’s“Records of Native People in South China”in the Tang Dynasty to the local chronicles of Yunnan during the Republic of China, there are relevant records on Pu’er tea.The following is an overview of the historical documents of Pu’er tea collected.
