Ⅰ.Records of Native People in South China (in 862)in the Tang Dynasty

The book, also named“History of Yunnan”,“Records of Yunnan”,“Records of Native Ethnic Groups in Yunnan”, was written by Fan Chao in 862, the Tang Dynasty.It is stated in volume seven that:

“Tea, produced in tea mountains under the jurisdiction of Yinsheng Jiedu Prefecture of Nanzhao State in the early Tang Dynasty, was harvested in a scattered manner without any method of picking and making.All ethnic groups in Nanzhao State mixed condiments such as pepper,ginger, cinnamon and boiled them together to drink”.

The origin, production methods, tea drinkers and cooking methods of Yunnan tea are clearly recorded in the book.
