wake up and smell the coffee是让别人清楚了解现实状况时说的，如果睡得迷迷糊糊的时候突然闻到咖啡的味道，是不是会猛然醒过来呢？
■ Don't bury your head in the sand．不要逃避现实。
这句话来自鸵鸟的一个特性，它们遇到强大的敌人时，就会把头埋在沙子里，假装没有看到。所以不让人把头埋在沙子里就是让他面对现实，不要逃避。

point out是指出的意思，point这个词在口语中的用法比较多，例如：
1．Good point．说得好。
2．make one's point说清楚

7．Get to the point．言归正传。（别再顾左右而言他了，让我们言归正传。／不要绕圈子，直接讲重点吧。／直接讲重点的东西。）

adopt的意思有“收养，采用，接受”等，通常只用作及物动词，用法上注意以下几点：
■ 表示“收养”，主要指法律上的收养某人（即作为儿女或继承人），如：
They are not my parents. I'm adopted．他们不是我的亲生父母，我是被领养的。
若不是指法律上的正式收养，而只是单纯地指“认养”，通常用动词foster，如：
He fostered two orphans．他认养了两个孤儿。
汉语中的“养子（女）”用英文表示即为adopted son (daughter)，而“养父母”则是adoptive parents/adoptive father/adoptive mother。
■ 表示“采用，采纳”，如：
Our school has adopted a new teaching method．我们学校采用了新的教学方法。
They adopted our suggestion．他们采纳了我们的建议。
■ 表示“正式通过，接受”，如：
The agenda was adopted after some discussion．经过讨论，议事日程得以通过。
