Josh: Hey! There he is. Bring it in, Jay.
Jay: How are you doing, Joshie?
Josh: It's Josh now. Have a seat. Ah, all right. So I flipped through your proposal, and here's the thing: We're about to build our largest luxury condo complex yet. And I have an important question for you — what is it you want to build?
Jay: Closets.
Josh: See, I was kinda hoping you'd say "Dreams".
Jay: I thought that was implied.
Josh: Jay, I'm looking for closets nobody's ever seen before, you know, a big "Wow!" You know what I'm saying?
Jay: You want a nice closet with sharp design, quality materials, and expert craftsmanship.
Josh: Uh, I mean, I want it to be like, bam! You know, people are gonna walk in there and go "Whoa! What do I hang first?"
Jay: (I wanted to hang myself.) Yeah, let's talk more specific. What exactly do you like and what don't you like?
Josh: All right, fair enough. Uh…I don't like this. This makes me sad. I do like getting my mind blown.
Jay: I love your enthusiasm. Uh, before I go off in the wrong direction, how about an example?
Josh: All right, check this out. So, like, three weeks ago, I'm down in South Beach. I walk into this thumpin' club. Bartender says, "What do you wanna drink?" I say, "Wow me." He mixes this thing together. I take one sip, and I'm like, "Hello, nurse!" And she's like, "You've been unconscious for two days." That's what I want in a closet.
Jay: I don't think I need to hear any more.
乔希：嘿，你来了。快进来，杰伊。
杰伊：你好吗，小乔希？

乔希：好吧，有道理。嗯……我不喜欢这个，这让我很不爽。我喜欢奇思妙想。

乔希：好吧，听着。就像这样，三周前，我去南部海滩度假，我走进一家摇滚俱乐部，酒保问我“你要喝什么？”我说“给我个惊喜”。他调了杯酒，我就喝了一小口，那种感觉就像如梦初醒，说“你好，护士”。护士告诉我“你已经昏迷两天了”。我的壁橱要的就是这个感觉。

本单元中的拜访客户是商务活动中经常做的事情，那么怎样跟客户约时间呢？不妨看看下面的几句常用口语：
1．I want to pay you a visit. Do you have any free time today?我想来拜访你，不知道今天你有没有空余时间？
2．Are you available today?你今天有时间吗？
3．Which timeslot is fine with you if I come over this Friday?如果我周五来拜访你的话，哪段时间比较方便呢？

Here's the thing.
是这样。
这一句是美国人常用的口语，意思是“事情是这样的，关键／重点是，情况是”，相当于the point is．美国人常把The thing is…挂在嘴边，或是会说Here is the thing．重点来了。
Here is the thing是一个开场白，当你要向对方说明一个状况，就可以先说这句，而且在不知道如何起头的情况下都可以用，如：Here's the thing, I haven't told my parents that I've got a boyfriend．问题是，我还没有告诉父母我有男朋友了。
我们在口语中，还会使用Just the thing．意思是“就是它了”。它其实是个省略句。完整形式为：It is just the thing I need．相当于“这就是（刚好是）我需要的东西”。比如去商场挑东西，你不知道自己到底要什么，让服务员给你推荐，她拿给你的刚好合适，也可以说Just the thing．表示刚好挑对了东西。
You know what I'm saying?
你知道我在说什么吗？
很显然这是一句问句，是在询问对方是否知道自己想表达的意思，我们在交流中经常有听不懂的时候，对方就会不停地问你：Could you say that again?有时候为了避免别人一遍遍说，我们可以在说完之后，加一句You know what I'm saying?来询问，也可以用以下的句子来替换：
1．You know what I mean?你明白我的意思吗？
2．Do you know what I mean?你明白我的意思吗？
3．Do you know what I am saying?你知道我在说什么吗？
常见的回答有：
1．Yes．我听懂了。
2．Sorry, I didn't quite catch that．对不起，我还是没有完全听明白。
3．So what you are trying to say is…那么，你想说的是……
4．Do you mean…你的意思是……吗？
5．Is that what you mean?你是这个意思吗？
6．Could you run that by me again?你能再说一遍吗？
