4.3.2 Proper Nouns

A proper noun is a noun which names a specific person, place,or thing. The first letter of a proper noun is always represented by a capital letter. The overuse of NP in OETT has relation with the unrecognized spelling of Chinese NP translations.Chinese proper nouns are usually translated in Pinyin or translated sem antically. Both of the forms can't correspond to any English words and won't be taken as proper nouns in English.

Situated at the heart of Beijing, the Palace Museumis approached through Tian'anmen Gate.Immediately to the north of the Palace Museumis Prospect Hill(also called Coal Hill),while on the east and west are Wangfujing and Zhongnanhai neighborhoods.(TETT)

In the above example, there are eight proper nouns in the 40-word text. However, four proper nouns are spelt in Pinyin;the other four is translated from the source language semantically.Thismight cause the im proper counting in Word list.
