Task 1 Read and recite the mini talks.
1.Ask How to Get to a Place in a City
A:Excuse me,could you please tell me the way to the city center?
B:Take Bus No.12 or Bus No.29,and you’ll get downtown.
A:Sorry to trouble you,but could you direct me to the Media Hotel?
B:Walk down this road as far as the fourth crossing.
A:Excuse me,can you tell me how to get to the museum?
B:Go straight ahead.It’s on the left side.
2.Ask How to Get to a Place within a Building
A:Excuse me,could you please tell me where Miss White’s office is?
B:Take the lift to the ninth floor.When you come out of the lift,turn left.Miss White’s office is the second one on the right.
A:Where are the washrooms,please?
B:You’ll find one on every floor near the lift.
A:Hello,Miss.I’m looking for the meeting room.
B:Just go straight ahead.It’s in front of you.You can’t miss it.
3.Ask How Far It Is
A:Is the railway station far from here? Should I take a bus?
B:No,you don’t need to.It’s not far at all.
A:Is there a bus station near here?
B:Yes,it is over there.It’s a five-minute walk from here.
A:How far is the Peace Hotel from here?
B:The building is a mile from here.You’d better take a taxi.
4.Ask Strangers the Way
A:Could you tell me the way to the subway station?
B:I’m new here,so I really don’t know the way around yet.
A:Excuse me,is this the right bus to the station?
B:Sorry,I’m a stranger here myself.
A:Excuse me,is there a post office near here?
B:Sorry,I’m new here too.
5.Ask How to Go to Work
A:Do you drive a lot to work?
B:Not really.I often walk there within 30 minutes.
A:How do you get to work?
B:I drive to the subway station,leave my car in the parking lot,and then take the train.
A:Do you live far from your office? What means of transport do you take?
B:Yes,but there is a direct bus.I take Bus 18 to my office.
