形态特征:体型较指名亚种细小,成体全长雄性535~742mm,雌性585~725mm。尾长雄性75~101mm,雌性70~90mm。头呈三角形,较指名亚种宽扁(也有部分头形狭长者),颈细,尾较短。具管牙;有颊窝。头背至枕部有黑褐色坩埚钳形斑。眼后有一块黑褐色窄带状斑,宽约2mm。体背瓦灰色,自颈至尾具不规则“X”形黑褐斑(也有部分个体呈横斑)。腹面、下唇、下颌灰白色,自颈向后灰黑逐渐变深。上唇鳞多7枚,呈2-1-4式,也有部分8枚,呈2-1-5式。下唇鳞10~11枚。背鳞起棱,23-23-17行。腹鳞158~167枚,尾下鳞36~49对,肛鳞完整。

生活习性:生活于山区、丘陵地带,常栖息林缘、灌丛的树上及草丛中,以鼠类和鸟类为食。卵胎生,8月下旬至9月中旬产仔,每产6~16条。幼蛇全长192~247mm,体重4.5~6.8g。

地理分布:中国特有种,仅分布于辽宁。

环渤海地区分布:仅见于辽宁南部山区。

生存现状:濒危(EN)。

Description The body size is smaller than Gloydius shedaoensis shedaoensis, adult males up to 535-742mm in TOL, adult females up to 585-725mm in TOL.Male's tail up to 75-101mm, female's tail up to 70-90mm.Head is in triangle shape, wider and flatter than Gloydius shedaoensis shedaoensis (and some heads are long and narrow); neck thin; tail short; tubular teeth; bilateral pits; black and brown crucible tongs-shaped spots from the head dorsum to the occipital part; one black brown narrow banded spot, in the width of 2 mm at the back of eyes; body dorsum color is tile grey, with black and brown spots, in irregular“X”shape, from the neck to the tail (also some have lateral spots); the ventral,lower lip, chins are greyish white, the neck and tail are greyish black; 7 supralabials are arranged in 2-1-4 rows; some have 8 supralabials, arranged in 2-1-5 rows; 10-11 infralabials; dorsal scales are ribbed, arranged in 23-23-17 rows; 158-167 ventral scales;36-49 pairs of subcaudals; anal plate is complete.

Behaviour Gloydius shedaoensis qianshanensis live in mountainous and hilly areas, often inhabit forest edges, brush woods, trees and grass, and they feed on mice and birds.They are ovoviviparous, and spawn in late of August to mid-September, and lay 6-16 eggs at a time.The juvenile snakes up to 192-247mm TOL and 4.5-6.8g in weights.

Distribution Native to China: known in Liaoning Province.Distribution around Bohai Sea: in the mountains of southern Liaoning.
