When we two parted
In silence and tears，
Half broken－hearted

乔治·戈登·拜伦（George Gordon Byron，1788—1824），英国伟大的民主主义诗人，19世纪初期浪漫主义文学的杰出代表。拜伦一生的主要作品有诗集《懒散的时刻》，讽刺诗《英国诗人和苏格兰评论家》，总题为《东方叙事诗》的6篇传奇性长诗。长篇叙事诗《恰尔德·哈罗德游记》和《唐璜》是他的代表作。

《想从前我们俩分手》（一译作《昔日依依别》）回忆了诗人与爱人分别时的情景和感受及后来的心情。诗中，诗人情感真挚，毫不矫揉造作，诗歌真情动人。In silence and tears的重复，不仅使全诗前后照应，浑然一体，而且强化了真心在过去和将来都不会更改的决心。另一方面，诗人运用了较短的诗节和众多断开的句子，暗示了他难以压抑的、无法平静的痛苦心境。
