Listening for Names of Job Titles
A job title is a term that describes the position held by an employee in a few words or less.Depending on the job, a job title can describe the responsibilities of the position, the level of the job, or both. For example, job titles that include the terms “executive” “manager”“director” “chief” “supervisor”, etc., are typically used for management jobs.
Other job titles reflect what the person does on the job (e.g., “chef” “accountant”“housekeeper” “social media specialist” “programmer” “guest services coordinator”“mechanic”, etc.).
Some job titles reveal both the job level and the job responsibilities, such as “head chef”“lead accountant” “electrical superintendent” “marketing manager”, etc. Here are different prefixes for some common job titles:
1. Chief XXX Officer
e.g. CEO, COO, CTO, CMO, CHRO, CFO
2. Managing Director or Director of XXX
e.g. Director of Marketing, Director of Operations, Technology Director
3. Senior Vice President, Vice President, Assistant Vice President
e.g. SVP of Finance, Assistant VP of Human Resources
4. Manager, Supervisor, Lead, Team Lead
e.g. Lead Analyst, Call Centre Manager
5. Associate, Representative
e.g. Business Development Associate, Customer Service Representative
6. Clerk, Assistant
e.g. AR Clerk, Administrative Assistant
7. Intern, Aide
e.g. Marketing Intern, Physical Therapy Aide
