Process Essay Writing
A process essay explains a procedure or a task. There are two types of process essay. A directional process essay tells the reader how to do or make something. An informational process essay explains or analyzes a process. Although directional and informational process essays have different purposes, they can be developed using the same pattern of development and organization. Attention should be paid to:
1. Choose a topic.
2. Understand the process that you have chosen.
3. Break it down.
4. Think about your audience.
5. Decide on a point of view.
6. Write an introduction that provides some background information about the process.
7. Organize the body of the essay chronologically.
8. Use clear and direct language in the body.
9. Include only details that are essential to each step.
10. Use lexical devices to achieve cohesion.
11. Write a conclusion that provides an overview of the process.
