序言

寧波是中國佛教文化發祥地之一,早在東漢末年,就成為神州最早承受佛光之地。聞名遐邇的天童禪寺,是我國佛教重要的禪宗道場,歷史上曾是著名的“五山十刹”之第二山,自古被譽焉“東南佛國”、“天下禪宗”。
佛教聖地天童禪寺,自義興祖師於晉朝開山以來,經歷代相承,法流不盡,終於成為規模宏大的禪宗十方叢林。寺院禪意深邃,歷代法門龍象輩出。宋代的中興祖師宏智正覺,創立曹洞宗“默照禪”,為天下禪宗興盛作出了傑出的貢獻,當時有“臨天下,曹半天”之说,由此天童禪寺也成了禪宗“半天下”的重地:明代重興祖師密雲圓悟,重建了天童禪寺,奠定了寺院的建築規模與風格,民國時期,“中華佛教總會”會長、著名詩僧、焉教捐軀的“八指頭陀”寄禪敬安禪師,使天童禪寺成為十方選賢叢林:佛教領袖、中國佛教協會首任會長圓瑛法師等等,皆出自天童禪寺。天童禪寺屢經興廢重建,然道風常興,慧燈常燃,全赖歷代禪師嚴持毗尼秉繼宗風,使千年古刹法炬常明。這些燦若群星的高僧大德,均焉天童禪寺作出了不可磨滅的貢獻,更使天童禪寺在中國佛教史上留下濃墨重彩的篇章。
天童禪寺普結法緣,宗風遠播,自唐以來一直是中外文化交流的重要場所。日本高僧榮西,兩次渡海入末,從天童禪寺住持虚庵懷敞,得臨濟法,歸國後創立臨濟宗,成為日本臨濟宗開山祖師,日本僧人道元,於嘉定十六年(1223年)航海入宋,來天童禪寺,受曹洞宗法,學成回國,創永平寺,焉日本曹洞宗始祖,該宗尊天童禪寺為祖庭;日本畫聖雪舟等揚,在天童禪寺求法,被明憲宗賜属“天童第一座”,創作了頗具浙派山水畫風格的傳世名作。同時,天童禪寺的高僧也多次赴日弘法,如淨弟子寂圆智深,於宋寶慶三年(1227年)遠渡東瀛弘法布道,創立了寶慶寺。天童禪寺和日本曹洞宗臨濟宗源遠流長的法緣關系,在中日兩國佛教交往史上留下了光輝的一頁。
欣逢國泰民安、政通人和的昌隆盛世,正是佛教弘法利生的殊勝時節。天童禪寺以弘揚佛法,普濟聚生為宗旨。在護法龍天的庇佑下,在法師與居士們的共同努力下,在信徒虔誠的祈願中,天童禪寺將更加莊嚴。現全寺僧案威儀整肅,晨鐘暮鼓,誦"經禮佛,參禪修持,如法如律地進行佛教活動,祈求祖國統一富强,推動社會文明進步,為弘法利生的佛教事業做出應有的貢獻。
張悦鳴居士與天童禪寺因缘殊勝,稀有難得。承蒙他對天童禪寺的支持,精心编制(天童禪寺》畫册。本書溯寧波佛教之渊源,展千年古刹之真迹,弘揚佛教文化,再現禪宗魅力,用一組組精美的照片,引人入勝地展示了天童禪寺的滄桑歷史,建築工藝、文物古迹、高僧大德、人文景觀和佛教净土的生動形象,不少圖片還忠實地記錄了僧人的日常生活,難能可貴,功德無量。通過此書,讀者會更多地了解并喜愛天童禪寺的佛教文化、山水景觀。

Ningbo is one of the birthplaces of Chinese Buddhist culture, As early as the end of East Han Dynasty, the Buddhism has been intro-duced into Ningbo. The famous Tiantong Buddhist Termple is one of the important sites of Buddhist teachings, enjoying high reputa-tions of "Buddhist Country in Southeast"and "Zen of the World".
Since Master Yixing built in Jin dynasty, Tiantong Buddhist Temple has become the great zen with a large scale after many masters'continuous efforts, Among them, Master Hongzhi- zhengjue in Song dynasty created Soto Sect, which has made great contributions; totheflourish of zen: Master Miyun yuanwu in Ming dynasty rebuilt the Tiantong Temple and established the construction scale andstyle of thetemples. Master Jing an; chairman of Chinese Buddhist Association and famous poet during the Period of the Republicof China, an eight-finger Buddhist monk who sacrifced his life to the Buddhism, made Tiantong Buddhist Temple a great place tocultivate talents: Many other masters such as Master Yuanyin, the head of Buddhism and the first chairman of Chinese Buddhist As-sociation, were also fromTiantong Temple. Experiencing flourish and desolation and rebuilding, Tiantong Temple still maintains itsfeature and style. Those great masters have made indelible contributions to the temple, which occupied an important part on the his-tory of Chinese Buddhism.
Tiantong Buddhist Temple has been an important place for the cultural exchange between China and abroad Japanese monk Eisaihad crossed the sea and reach Song Ermpire twice, studied teaching of Rinzai Sect from the abbot of Tiantong Temple and foundedRinzai Sect when returned Japan Japanese monk Dogen, had come to Song in the 16th year of Jiading(year 1223), studied teachingof Soto Sect in Tiantong Temple and founded Eiheiji Temple when returned Japan. Japanese famous painter Sesshu, who used to cul-tivate inTiantong Temple, created great works with the style of Zhejiang school's landscape paintings. At the same time, masters ofTiantong Temple had went to Japan many times to spread Buddhism. Master Jakuen headed to Japan in the 3rd year Baoqing of Songdynasty(year 1227 to founded Hokyoji Temple.
Today, our country is flourishing, our government functions well, our people live in peace and harmony.It's the time to spread Bud-dhism Tiantong Buddhist Temple takes Buddhism-spreading and people- Telieving as its purpose. With the shelter of Immortals, thejoint efrtrs of masters and adherents and their devout blessings, Tiantong Temple will be more grandeur. Today, the staff of Tian-tong Temple make great efforts to develop Buddhist activities lawill, make our own contributions to bless unification and being.stronger of our country; to promote social civlization and to spread Buddhism and relieve people.
