A world-renowned sailing city. Qingdao is the host city of the Sailing Competitions of the 29th Olympics and the 13th Paralympics in 2008. It has hosted more than 10 international sailing events including Volvo Ocean Race and Clipper Round the World Yacht Race. It has launched local brand events such as CCOR and Fareast Cup International Regatta. Qingdao International Sailing Week·Qingdao International Marine Festival has been held for 13 consecutive sessions. Qingdao is one of the Asian cities that have introduced the largest number of international sailing events after the 2008 Olympics.
The "city of football" is rising on the horizon. Qingdao has been successfully selected as one of the first nine national key cities for football development during the 14th Five-year Plan period. It has won the bid to host the 2023 Asian Cup. And mass football is flourishing. Qingdao has become the permanent host city of Gothia Cup China · The World Youth Football Tournament.
Vibrant fashion sports. Fashion Sport City Strategic Alliance and Jiaodong Economic Circle Sport Development Alliance initiated by Qingdao actively introduce and organize a series of fashion sport events and a number of high-end events such as World Judo Masters, National Swimming Championship, and CBA All-Star Weekend have been held in Qingdao. Local brand events such as Qingdao Marathon and Qingdao Bay Bridge Marathon make the city more energetic.
Flourishing public sports. Large-scale walking activities in celebration of the 100th anniversary of the founding of the CPC have been held in the 7 districts and 3 county-level cities of Qingdao. The First Community Games have been held in 208 communities. Traditional events such as citizen fitness testing games and citizen fitness sports games and online events themed "home fitness and healthy life" and "walking around Shandong online" have attracted millions of participants.
Fruitful competitive sports. Qingdao athletes have won gold medals at the Summer Olympics for 4 consecutive sessions. At the Beijing Winter Olympics, a Qingdao athlete won a silver medal in Short Track Speed Skating, gaining the first medal for Shandong at the Winter Olympics. Qingdao is taking the lead in China in integrating sports with education with flourishing campus sailing, football and badminton programs. There are 60 plus provincial level schools with sports tradition and hundreds of municipal level sport-featured schools.
