After the full-scale outbreak of the Anti-Japanese War，the symbol of Sun Yat-sen was destroyed，reconstructed，and scrambled repeatedly as the representation of the ruling power in Shanghai.During the Battle of Shanghai on August 13，1937，the municipal achievements of the Greater Shanghai Plan were destroyed，and the memorials of Sun Yat-sen were deliberately damaged and humiliated by the Japanese army.The scramble between the Wang puppet regime for Sun Yat-sen ’s political heritage with Chongqing was always fierce after it controlled Shanghai，also contributing to the construction of Shanghai Zhongshan Park.After the victory of the Anti-Japanese War，although Sun Yat-sen ’s “temporal commemoration ”[57] has continued，the scale of memorials to Sun in the urban spatial pattern of Shanghai has never recovered to the pre-war level.
