3.4　Summary

This chapter is designed mainly for the purpose of making explicit the theoretical foundations on which the current research is built.All in all,what is presented includes a discussion of the framework for analyzing the CMs in EAPs,a recapitulation of the nature of disciplines and linguistic-cultural backgrounds of AEs and ANEs.These illustrations contribute to the thorough analysis of various types of CMs in Chapter 4,a disciplinary comparison of CMs in Chapter 5,and a comparison of CMs in AE EAPs and ANE EAPs in Chapter 6.Figure 3.7 draws a general picture of the discussion in the following chapters.

According to Figure 3.7,Chapter 4 will identify the semantic types of CMs in the construction of authorial stance.At the same time,a corpus-assisted analysis is conducted.Chapter 5 and Chapter 6 will deal with the cross-disciplinary comparison and linguistic-cultural comparison of the CMs separately.Chapter 7 is about the findings,implications,limitations and suggestions of the current study.
