Chapter 6　CMs in EAPs written by AEs and ANEs

The corpus of this dissertation contains 240 English academic papers.Specifically,half of them are written by AEs and the other half by ANEs.This chapter aims to analyze the similarities and differences in using CMs and their sub-types by AEs and ANEs,so as to shed light on the research of academic teaching and writing.This chapter takes a comparative study of CMs in EAPs by professionals from different language backgrounds.Okamura & Shaw(2001)argues that members of different language backgrounds have learned different ways of expressing themselves generally.This section aims to find out whether the ANEs share the similar choices of CMs like AEs.
