The Quarry Hotel
深坑酒店(上海佘山世茂洲际酒店）位于松江佘山国家旅游度假区内。酒店因其独特的地理位置、建筑构思和施工工艺开创了多项世界先例，创造了全球人工建造海拔最低五星级酒店的纪录，其建设过程受到美国国家地理频道《世界伟大工程巡礼》与美国探索频道《奇迹工程》等节目的连续跟踪拍摄。
佘山地区有多个1949年前炸山采石留下的深坑，而天马山矿坑由于靠近水道交通便利，至70年代末被挖成一个80米深、东西长280米、南北宽220米、周长约1千米的巨坑，且其崖壁陡峭，斜坡角度近80°。2006年世茂集团考察天马山深坑后，希望利用废弃的矿坑建造一个具有独特自然景观的酒店。
酒店整体规划为地面以上2层、地面以下16层（其中水面以下2层），共建有336套客房。酒店设计上充分利用所在深坑的环境特点，为每间客房配设观景阳台，可直接观赏对面深坑峭壁高80米的瀑布。坑内有景观湖，与外围的河水相通并循环，并设置了包括崖壁水上攀岩、水上栈道、悬崖滑索、亲水酒吧等娱乐项目，还有水下餐厅、水下情景套房等亲水设施。
该酒店因其建筑构造的特殊性，面临前所未有的施工挑战。项目经过约7年的论证及无数次设计方案的调整优化，终于在2009年正式开工，并攻克了一系列的技术难题，包括地质勘查、抗震性能、消防设计、防洪防灾、爆破、打桩，以及施工材料运输等。
世茂深坑酒店建成后，成为全球首个集五星级酒店、主题乐园、娱乐休闲设施等为一体的深坑大型旅游度假项目，也是受世界瞩目的特色项目。

The Quarry Hotel (InterContinental Shanghai Wonderland) is located in a decommissioned quarry in the Shanghai Sheshan National Tourist Resort. The hotel has set a number of world precedents for its unique location, architectural concept, and construction technology, setting a record for the construction of the world's lowest altitude five-star hotel. The construction process was tracked by Megastructures on the National Geographic Channel and the show Impossible Engineering on the Discovery Channel.
There are many deep pits in the Sheshan area because of the quarrying before 1949. In the late 1970s, the Tianmashan quarry was dug into a giant pit measuring 80 meters deep, 280 meters from east to west, 220 meters from north to south and 1 km in circumference. The angle of the slope is nearly 80°, a virtual cliff. After investigating in 2006, Shimao Group made plans to build a hotel within the unique landscape in the pit.
The hotel has 2 floors above ground and 16 floors below beneath the surface (including two floors under the water), for a total of 336 rooms. The design takes full advantage of the unusual environmental features of the deep pit. Each room is designed to have a balcony from which the 80-meter waterfall can be seen directly. In the pit, a landscaped pond, connected with the river outside rests near a variety of other features and activities including rock climbing, activity pool, and a zip line, among others. A waterside bar, an underwater restaurant, and underwater suites are offered.
Due to its uniqueness in construction, the hotel faced unprecedented challenges. After about 7 years of discussion and numerous adjustments and optimizations of design proposals, the project was officially begun in 2009 and has overcome a series of technical problems.
The hotel has become the first large-scale tourist resort integrating a five-star hotel, theme park, and entertainment and leisure facilities.
