Section B

I saw you about six months ago with a broken finger.(6个月前我来看骨折的手指。)

但听力材料中提到:“They started about two months ago.”

18.【答案】A

文中提到:“When I go to work in the morning, when I step outside,my shop,I run the boutique. My shop is just nearby,so when I walk out,the headache comes on.”(早上起来出门上班就开始头疼。)然后女士又问他晚上是否头疼,男士说道:“No.I am not sleepy at night.”

男士提到:“I feel that I am going to fall down.”

Although there are extensive suppliers of vitamins, minerals and high-quality proteins, eggs also contain a high level of blood cholesterol, one of the major causes of the heart disease. One egg in fact contains a little more than 2/3 of the cholesterol the body needs daily. This knowledge has caused egg sales to drop in the recent years, which,in turn, has brought about the development of several alternatives to eating regular eggs. One alternative is to eat substitute eggs. These egg substitutes are not really eggs, but they look somehow like eggs when they are cooked. They have the advantage of having lower cholesterol weights, and they can be scrambled or used in baking. One disadvantages, however,is that they are not good for frying or boiling.A second alternative to regular eggs is a new type of egg, sometimes called designer eggs. These eggs are produced by hens that are fed low-fat diets, including such ingredients as corn, flax and rice bran.In spite of their diets, however, these eggs contain the same amount of cholesterol as the regular eggs.Yet,the producers of these eggs claim that eating their eggs will not raise the blood cholesterol in humans.

Questions 21 to 25 are based on the passage you have just heard.

21.What is good about the eggs?

22.What happened when people came to know the high level of cholesterol in eggs?

23.What has been one of the approaches to the problems of cholesterol?

24.What makes the designer eggs different from the regular eggs?

25.What is the main idea of the talk?

Although there are extensive suppliers of vitamins, minerals and high-quality proteins, eggs also contain a high level of blood cholesterol, one of the major causes of the heart disease.(尽管鸡蛋富含维生素、矿物质和高质量的蛋白质,但鸡蛋含有较多的胆固醇,是心脏病的主因之一。)

么?”A项是鸡蛋价格上升;B项说心脏病的发病率高;C项说鸡蛋价格下降;

听力材料中“This knowledge has caused egg sales to drop in the recent years.”

文中“This knowledge has caused egg sales to drop in the recent years, which,in turn, has brought about the development of several alternatives to eating regular eggs.”

24.【答案】A

These eggs are produced by hens that are fed low-fat diets, including such ingredients as corn, flax and rice bran,该句意为,“鸡蛋是由用玉米、麻、糠麸等低脂肪食物喂养的母鸡下的。”

【解析】细节概括题。题目是:“这篇短文的主旨是什么?”A项指鸡蛋和烹饪方法;

C.To tell people how to buy life insurance.

D.To help improve the quality of life.

Life insurance isn’t fun to buy.It forces you to think about your death:a subject many prefer not to confront. But there’s a single, overriding reason to buy life insurance:to provide an income for your dependents if you die.Don’t depend solely on an agent to figure your life insurance needs.Rule-of-thumb estimates such as five or eight times your income are guessed:they may produce too little or too much insurance.Carry too little insurance and you may not provide a reasonable standard of living for your family after your death;carry too much and you may not enjoy a reasonable standard of living while you’re alive.

According to statistics, most people who have life insurance don’t have enough. Then how do you determine the amount of life insurance you will need to maintain your family’s current life style if the bread-winner died?First, think what your family’s expenses will be if you die tomorrow? Then analyze your assets, the source of income that you can use to cover the expenses. Finally, subtract the assets from the needs. The result is the amount of the additional insurance you need to buy.

Questions 26 to 30 are based on the passage you have just heard.

26.What does the speaker think of buying life insurance?

27.Which of the following is true according to the speaker?

28.What is the most important thing to consider in buying life insurance?

29.What is the key element in determining the amount of life insurance?

30.What is the purpose of the talk?

Life insurance isn’t fun to buy.(买人身保险并不是件快乐的事情。) 而听力材料的第三句“978-7-111-51589-0-Chapter01-6.jpgoverriding reason to buy life insurance:to provide an income for your dependents if you die.”

27.【答案】A

听力材料中的“carry too much and you may not enjoy a reasonable standard of living while you’re alive.”

First, think what your family’s expenses will be if you die tomorrow? Then analyze your assets, the source of income that you can use to cover the expenses. Finally, subtract the assets from the needs. The result is the amount of the additional insurance you need to buy.(首先,考虑去世后家人的开销,分析财产和收入来源是否能支付这些费用。

Our culture is obsessed with sleep, and the lack of it,yet many of us don’t know some basic facts. As many as 35 million Americans experience chronic insomnia, and yet in 2006 only$20 million was spent on research. In the six years that author, professor and lifelong insomniac Gayle Green spent researching and writing her book “Insomniac”.She learned almost all there is to know about sleep and the lack thereof. Here are five common myths about how we get our shut-eye and why:

1.Humans Need Eight Hours Sleep a Night

There are many ways of sleeping and few cultures sleep in eight-hour consolidated blocks like we do.Until the industrial era, many Western Europeans divided the night into “the first sleep”and the“second sleep”.They’d go to bed soon after dark, sleep for four hours then wake for an hour or two during which they’d write, pray, smoke, have sex or even visit neighbors. In fact, there’s some evidence to suggest that this sleep pattern may be the one most in tune with our inherent circadian rhythms.

2.Sleep Isn’t Just a Bodily Function

Sleep is a biological, physiological system, akin to the cardiovascular system, the nervous system and so on.Like any other system,it is highly variable, and it wears out and gets more fragile with age.

3.Animals Don’t Have Sleep Problems

Insomnia occurs in animals and insects, too, sort of.Technically, insomnia is defined as a“complaint”,and since animals can’t complain,it’s difficult to measure in them.

4.Falling Asleep Is a Gradual Process

Nope.Instead, for most p eople,it switches on and off like a light switch. But for insomniacs and narcoleptics, the switch doesn’t work quite well.Instead they inhabit the space in between—never entirely awake, nor entirely asleep.

5.Sleeping Less Burns More Calories

In the short term, yes, but sleeping less probably won’t help you lose weight.Lack of sleep suppresses our natural appetite-depressants,while fueling appetite-increasers,often leading to weight gain.

Questions:

21.According to the talk, approximately how many Americans suffer chronic insomnia?

22.Which of the following can best describe Gayle Green?

23.Which of the following sleeping patterns might be the most in tune with our inherent biological system?

24.According to the talk, why is it difficult to measure insomnia in animals?

25.According to the talk, which of the following is true?

21.【答案】A

As many as 35 million Americans experience chronic insomnia,所以答案为A。

In the six years that author, professor and lifelong insomniac Gayle Green spent researching and writing her book“Insomniac”.

文章中提到:there’s some evidence to suggest that this sleep pattern may be the one most in tune with our inherent circadian rhythms. They’d go to bed soon after dark, sleep for four hours then wake for an hour or two during which they’d write, pray, smoke, have sex or even visit neighbors.

文章中提到:insomnia is defined as a“complaint”,and since animals can’t complain,it’s difficult to measure in them.

25.【答案】A
