10.2 FOUR-STEP APPROACH FOR ARTICLEWRITING

10.2 FOUR-STEP APPROACH FOR ARTICLEWRITING

A four-step approach is recommended when writing a business article:

●Collecting Information

●Planning the Structure

●Writing the Draft

●Proofreading and Editing

Step 1

Before you write the article,it is important to consider who you are writing the article for,and why. Then you may ask yourself the following questions:

●Who wants the article?

●Why do they want it?

●What are they going to do with it?

●What do they want it to cover?

●What will the article not cover?

●What will happen as a result of the article?

●When you collect information, you may check existing knowledge, record the sources used, make notes from the sources, reference sources as you go along, order your notes and group together points based on your original plan.(https://www.daowen.com)

Step 2

Develop an article outline(i.e.,the overall structure of your article)by identifying particular headings and subheadings.

List the ideas associated with each heading and subheading.Group related ideas where possible and then arrange them in a logical order.

Plan the introduction and the conclusion(but do not use phrases such as“The Introduction”,“The Conclusion”or“The Main Body”as the headings).

Step 3 and 4

Use the outline you developed in Step 2.Write the first draft.

Develop one paragraph for each idea or topic.Write a strong opening sentence for each paragraph, which will indicate the conclusions you made at the case analysis stage.

Avoid redundant or overblown words.

Be concise! When 6 words will replace 14 words, let them do so!

Check grammar,spelling,and punctuation.

Number the pages.

Write Draft 2 and correct for errors, wordiness and unnecessarily pretentious words.

Proofread Draft 2.It's a good idea to have another person do this.
