Every legal subject has its own history and a study of that history normally provides some guidance both to the structure of the topic and to the degree of evolution of its basic principles.It is probably the case that no legal rule can be properly understood without some knowledge of its individual history.This is particularly true for our discipline,insofar as modern private international law has been strongly influenced by its own history.This part provides a historical overview of private international law which is composed of three chapters,i.e.,the European Continental History,the Anglo- American History,and the Chinese History in which the historic development of Chinese private international law has been systematically elaborated.
