Hello,I’m Taiyi.I am from Korea,24 years old.Today,I would like to share my experiences with you.

I would like to share my charity experiences with you.First, when I was teenager I have met autistic children. My mother had volunteered for children with autism; so she took me and my siblings to their home and let us play together. At the age of 12 or 13,I enjoyed outdoor activities like swimming, hiking and visiting aquarium with them.

And In Korea, volunteering for 20 or 30 hours per a year is mandatory in middle or high school. So during my school days,I went to nursing home regularly, and helped clean their building, talked with the elders. And I also made project called “Greenism”in Korea as an aiesecer. The project was about environment.EPs and Korean students educated children about environment, made a forum and did a campaign to let citizen protect environment.

In Korea, there are many charity activities. It can be largely divided into 2 kinds of activity.First,we raise a subscription.Especially,in winter, the poor would go through very hard time. So,we raise a donation using Salvation Army pot.And the other is to provide some voluntary service. One of voluntary service called“talent donation”became popular in Korea.“Talent Donation”means to share what we can do or what we are good at with others. For example,if you are good at drawing,we can go to orphanage, teach them how to draw and have fun.The talent does not have to be grand or outstanding.Because all have their own talent,we can be volunteering for the others. This way, everyone can donate my talent, and at the same time,we can receive talent donation from others.

For me,this project,Loving Care project was a great opportunity to be closed to people with autism again, share my cultures and communicate with them.Actually,I was worried before coming to China, because it would be hard for me to communicate with them.As you know,we use different languages and they have some disorders. In fact, communication with them was pretty hard because they were too young, and some children could not focus on our class at all. So,we should prepare plays and activities that would make them enjoy and we should have been more patient. As time goes by,they opened their mind, and started to react.Even on the day after my class about Korea, one girl approached me and said .I was extremely touched that they remember something that I have taught before.

During the days in Xiamen,I realized 2 things.First, attention, cares and proper education are important for autistic children. We should pay attention to them and wait for them to learn in their own pace and style.Because they have different personality and condition,so we should respect each of them and try to let them realize their own potentials.Secondly,I realized that if there is a willingness to be friend each other,we can be regardless of obstacles like languages or situations. The only thing we need is to keep an open mind and pay attention.Of course, some children did not react to us at all,but I think they would learn to be with others little by little as they grow.So we should try our best to be friends. If we keep open mind and try to do something meaningful like this project,we can make our society better place to live together.

At last It was fortunate for me to have such experiences and feelings in China.I am extremely grateful to meet you all and share my experiences.Thank you for listening.

Sarah

I feel like charity is useful more for warm hearted individuals to help people who are at a greater disadvantage than them.Often times charity can fill in the gaps in welfare state and help people that the government cannot reach or support fully.

Previously I have supported charity by giving small monetary donations, donating clothes, food and other items and volunteering at fundraising events.I have also worked as a volunteer promoting literacy in local school children and helped to restore and look after historical buildings.

Charity in the UK has a large sector. There are numerous NGOs,both international and local to small areas. These international NGOs include charities such as the Red Cross,Oxfam and UNICEF.The smaller scale NGOs usually focus on local areas and issues, such as the homeless in a specific city or disadvantaged children.

People in the UK can support these charities through monetary donations as a one time thing or as a monthly basis.Furthermore there are often many fundraising events such as marathons and auctions. Some Charities also accept donations of specific items, such as clothes for the homeless or refugees, toys for children in hospital and food for disadvantaged families.A large number of NGOs also have their own shops where donated goods, new or second hand,is sold on to raise funds.Citizens often help out by volunteering in these shops on a regular basis.

The UK government and other large bodies also support these charities and their work by providing monetary subsidies.
