4.4　Summary

From the literature on language use and communication between women and men,we can see that differences in communication are caused not by biology,but by society.Gender inequality or discrimination exists in language use within the family.Men tend to have more power in language,empowered by history,culture,society and patriarchy.Because of this,the idea of 'men as dominant but women as subordinate' is still rooted in many people's minds,particularly in men's.Men may use both verbal and non-verbal communication to control women.The issue of language abuse has been increasingly prominent in modern times and is one which cannot be neglected.The notion that 'men are superior to women' must be eliminated.There should be equal pay,equal treatment and non-sexist language between women and men.
