Pudong New District，Then and Now

A photograph captures the moment and tells the history of a place.However，in Shanghai，with its fast development，what was r__1__only a few years ago can so quickly become history.Perhaps no o__2__place epitomizes the trend（趋势）better than Pudong New District，Shanghai.

Shanghai is d__3__into two parts by the Huangpu River，with the east side of the river called Pudong and the west，Puxi.Nowadays，when talking about Puxi，most people will think of the Bund that e__4__a long history.When it comes to Pudong，the Lujiazui Financial Center with many skyscrapers（摩天大楼）may cross our minds.

However，only 30 years ago，Pudong was not the s__5__as we see today.It was much worse than Puxi.Many local people used to say that a bed in Puxi was better than a house in Pudong.In 1990，Pudong began to change greatly.Skyscrapers r__6__the low-rise houses and rose into the sky like those in Manhattan（曼哈顿）；broad roads were paved like those in Paris；and city parks were built like those in London.The old Pudong no longer e__7__and has turned into a modern district.
