The history of the Mid-Autumn Festival g__3__back to the Zhou Dynasty(朝代)over 3,000 years ago.Ancient Chinese emperors(皇帝)worshiped the moon in autumn,because they believed this would bring them a good harvest the f__4__year.The word“Mid-Autumn”first appeared in the book Rites of Zhou(《周礼》).But at that time,the word only meant the second month of autumn.

During the Tang Dynasty,appreciating the moon became p__5__among the upper class(上流社会).Later,c__6__people also began appreciating the moon together.In the Northern Song Dynasty,the 15th day of the eighth lunar month(阴历八月)finally became the“Mid-Autumn Festival”.

Common people began to eat mooncakes during the festival in the Ming and Qing dynasties.At that time,the Mid-Autumn Festival was as popular as the Spring Festival.
