Dialogue 1 Asking for Makeup Service

(G:Guest C:Service Center Clerk R:Room Attendant)

C:Good afternoon.Service Center.What can I do for you?

G:Good afternoon.This is George Black in Room 1502.My room hasn’t been made up yet.Could you send someone to clean my room?

C:Yes.Mr.Smith.The “DND” sign has been on for the whole day,so we didn’t clean the room so as not to disturb you.

G:Well,it’s my fault.I forgot to turn it off when I went out.

C:OK,then do you wish the room to be cleaned now?

G:Yes,if there’s not much trouble.

C:No trouble at all.The room attendant will be in your room soon.

(A few minutes later)

R:Housekeeping.May I come in?

G:Yes,please.

R:Good afternoon,Mr.Smith.I’m here to clean your room.Where would you like me to begin with?

G:I’ve just showered and it’s quite a mess in the bathroom now.So could you please tidy up the bathroom first?

R:Certainly.

G:And then I think I’d like you to make up the bed and change the sheet.

R:Yes,sir.I’ll do it at once.

(After the cleaning)

R:Is there anything else I can do for you,Mr.Smith?

G:Oh,yes.I’m afraid there is something wrong with the bed-side lamp.

R:Oh,let me see.…Ok.I will send for a repairman to check it right away.

G:Thank you.I really appreciate your efficient work.

R:My pleasure.I’m always at your service.Goodbye.

G:Good evening.This is William Henry in Room 515.I’d like to request a wake-up call.

C:Yes,Mr.Henry,at what time would you like us to call you?

G:Well,I’m not really sure.But I have to arrive at Beijing Capital International Airport before 8:00 o’clock tomorrow morning.Do you know how long it takes to drive to the airport from the hotel?

C:It usually takes about half an hour.

G:Then that means I’ll have to be on the road by 7:30.

C:I’m afraid it’s rush hour in that period of time.So I suggest you be on the road by 7:00 at the latest.

G:All Right.In that case,I’d like you to call me at 6:30.

C:Ok.So Mr.Henry,Room 515.Your calling time is 6:30 a.m.Am I right?

G:Yes,thank you very much.

C:You are welcome.Good night,Mr.Henry.Have a good sleep.

3.rush hour (上、下班的)高峰期

4.I suggest you be on the road at least by 7:00.“suggest”表示建议,后面的宾语从句的动词要用虚拟语气:should do.“should” 可以省略。

Dialogue 3 Asking for Laundry Service

(G:Guest C:Service Center Clerk H:Housekeeping)

C:Good morning.Service Center.Can I help you?

G:Yes.This is Michelle Brown.Can you send someone up for my laundry,please?I’m in Room 507.

C:Certainly,Ms.Brown.Would you please first fill in the laundry form in the drawer of the writing desk and put your laundry in the laundry bag?I will send someone to be there in a minute.

G:Ok.

(A few minutes later)

H:Laundry service.May I come in?

G:Come in please.

H:Good morning,Madam.I’m here for your laundry.

G:Oh,thank you.Here is the laundry.

H:Ok,let me have a look at your laundry form.

G:Here you are.

H:There are two silk shirts,a pair of pants and a dress.And according to your note,you would like to have your silk shirts washed by hand in cold water,the pants and the dress dry-cleaned and well-ironed,wouldn’t you?

G:Yes,that’s right.Oh,one more thing.Here is the button coming off from the dress.Would you help sew it on for me before washing?

H:No problem.And is there anything else I can do for you?

G:No,thanks.

H:You are welcome.Your laundry will be delivered to your room before 6:00 this afternoon.

G:That would be fine.Thanks for the information.

H:It’s my pleasure.Have a nice day.Bye.

G:Bye.

G:Good morning.This is Bob Miller calling from Room 1618.Could you send lunch to my room?

R:Certainly,Mr.Miller.We have very good room service.What would you like?

G:My wife would like a fillet steak with fried potatoes.And I’d like a sirloin steak and a green salad.

R:One fillet steak with fried potatoes,one sirloin steak and a green salad.How would like your steaks to be prepared,rare,medium or well-done?

G:Both rare,please.

R:Yes,sir.What soup would you like to have?

G:Vegetable soup and French onion soup.

R:And what would you like your dessert?

G:What would you recommend?

R:We have vanilla ice cream and chocolate mousse on the menu today.

G:Mm,I prefer vanilla ice cream.

R:Good.Is there anything else that you’d like to order?

G:No,not at the moment.

R:Ok,Mr.Miller.A rare fillet steak with fried potatoes,a rare sirloin steak,a green salad,a vegetable soup,a French onion soup and vanilla ice cream for dessert?Is that right?

G:Absolutely.

R:Ok,thank you for calling,Mr.Miller.We’ll bring them to you in about 20 minutes.

(About fifteen minutes later)

W:Room Service.May I come in?

G:Come in,please.

W:Good morning,Mr.Miller.Here is the lunch you ordered.

G:Thank you.Just put them on the table over there.

W:This is the bill,sir.

G:Can I have it charged to my account?

W:Certainly.Please sign your name and room number here on the bill.

G:All right.There you are.

W:Thank you.Hope you enjoy your lunch,Mr.and Mrs.Miller.Goodbye.
