Great Shopping Programs
China is known as a “shopping paradise” because of the huge variety of commodities，excellent quality of goods，and cheap market price.Therefore，shopping is a highlighted part of reception.In order to arrange the shopping program properly，a guide should get to know the tourists’ needs in advance and make a full preparation accordingly.The related strategies are provided in a pointwise manner as follows.
First，a guide should study the tourists’ shopping interests.This is an essential step in deciding on a shopping strategy since the tourists come from various countries and may differ greatly in their needs for goods.The guests from the USA，the UK，and other western countries are more interested in Chinese traditional goods like silk，Chinese handcrafts，jewelry，etc.while the guests from developing countries like to buy clothes，daily commodities，electronic appliances，etc.
Second，once the needs of the tourists have been clarified，the guide should select a suitable marketplace in compliance with the needs.The guests coming from developed countries have stronger purchase power and are more focused on the quality of products.So it is proper to arrange shopping in large shopping malls or department stores.While for those guests with lower price expectations，it will be wiser to have them shop in market-style commercial areas.In some cities，there are certain famous commercial streets，like Wangfujing Pedestrian Street in Beijing and Nanjing Road in Shanghai.These famous shopping streets are normally featured for superb collections of goods，better service，and pleasant shopping environments and，therefore，serve as good choices for shopping.
Third，the guide must have proper time management during the shopping process.Before shopping，the guide should inform the guests of all necessary details including the duration of shopping，location of the market，payment issues，regrouping spot，and his/her contact information in case any emergencies happen.Since the tourists usually have a great zeal for buying and bargaining，time management becomes a critical task in the shopping process.Otherwise，the overtime shopping may affect the next program scheduled.
Lastly，the guide should provide assistance within his/her capacity during the process.Since most tourists will encounter language difficulties during shopping time，it will be highly appreciated by the tourists if the guide can give some language support or teach them some simple Chinese words beforehand.As the marketplace is normally crowded，it is a must that the guide gives clear explanations on the location of the shopping area.If possible，the guide can accompany the guests for shopping.If there are too many tourists and different shopping priorities，the guide must inform the guests of the meeting place，the way back，and relative contact details.
All in all，shopping in China is a fantastic thing to many tourists，but it can also be the most challenging job to a local guide.So please keep the safety of tourists in mind and be alert all the time.Then a guide can help the tourists bring home both abundant Chinese products and enjoyable memories.

Distinctive things are mainly sold in cities like Beijing，Shanghai，Xi’an，Guilin，Chengdu，Suzhou，Hangzhou，Lhasa，Guangzhou，Shenzhen，and especially Hong Kong，the city which is reputed worldwide as a “Shopping Paradise”.It is the shopping destination that tourists most long to visit.Different cities in China have different local specialties:Beijing is noted for cloisonne;Shanghai is renowned for jade; Xi’an is celebrated for antiques and rugs，while Guilin is famous for scroll paintings and bijouterie.Particularly，Suzhou and Hangzhou are well-known for silk and tea.All will provide plenty of ideas for fulfilling your shopping trip.
For those who want to shop for souvenirs to take home，they can look around，apart from large department stores and shopping malls，in some of the open markets such as Panjiayuan Antique Market in Beijing.Unlike large department stores where the prices are fixed，these places are where you can and you must bargain.Your local tour guide or hosts are the best help when you go to these places.They will prove essential in finding the real stuff and bringing the price down.
