Dialogue 1 Restaurant Reservation
(R:Reservationist G:Guest)
R:Good morning.Green Spring Restaurant.How can I help you?
G:I’d like to book a table for Saturday.
R:What time do you need your table?
G:At 6:30 p.m.
R:How many people are there in your party?
G:There will be 6 people.Do you have a private room?We will invite one of our VIP clients,so I want to be quiet.
R:Ok,let me have a check… Yes,we do have a private room available on Saturday night,and it’s away from the entrance.It’s very quiet.
G:Great.I’ll take it.
R:May I have your name and phone number,sir?
G:I’m Tony Wang.You can call me at 131-3227-8775.
R:Let me read back your information.Mr.Wang is reserving a table for 6 in a private room for this Saturday,December 1.You’ll come at 6:30.Your telephone number is 131-3227-8775.Is that correct?
G:That’s right.By the way,I wonder if you have enough parking space for your guests?I don’t want to drive our client around in the crowded street to find a parking place.It’s too embarrassed.
R:Yeah,it’s really a problem to find parking space at dinner time.En… I think I can block a space for you to park your car,if you can come on time.
G:That’s great.It’s so kind of you.
R:You are welcome.Is there anything else I can do for you,Mr.Wang?
G:That’s all.Thank you.
R:We’re looking forward to your coming.Bye.
Dialogue 2 Seating the Guests
(W:Waiter G:Guest)
W:Good evening,welcome to our restaurant.Do you have a reservation?
G:No,I don’t.
W:In that case,I’m afraid you’ll have to wait for a while.We have no tables available at this moment.The restaurant is full now.
G:Look.There is a table at that corner.
W:I’m sorry,sir.That table has been reserved.
G:Ok,I see.How long do we have to wait?
W:Around 10 minutes.Would you please follow me this way to the lounge?You can take a seat there and have a rest.
G:Ok.Thank you.
W:Please have a cup of tea.We’ll seat you as soon as we have a table.
(A few minutes later.)
W:I’m sorry to have kept you waiting,sir and madam.Now we have a nice table for you two.This way,please.
G:Thank you.
W:How do you like this table?
G:Great.It’s by the window.We can enjoy the beautiful night view along the river outside.
W:I’m glad you like it.Please take a seat.What kind of drink do you prefer,coffee or tea?
G:White coffee,please.
W:Here are the coffee and menu.Would you like to order now?
G:We want to read the menu first.
W:Ok.Take your time.I’ll come back to take your order later.

Dialogue 3 Taking Orders

W:May I take your order now?
G1:I’ll have a mixed salad and a sirloin steak.Which vegetables come with the steak?
W:French fired potatoes,carrots and peas.
G1:That’ll fine.
W:How would you like your steak cooked?Rare,medium or well done?
G1:I’ll have it medium,please.
W:Which kind of salad dressing would you prefer,French,Thousand Island or Oil and Vinegar?
G1:Which one do you recommend?
W:I would recommend the French Dressing.
G1:Ok,I’ll take it.
W:What about you,madam?
G2:What’s your House Specialty?
W:Then I’ll have to recommend the Ham Slices Glazed with Honey Sauce.
G2:Fine,I’ll have it.What soup will you go with it?
W:Bamboo Shoot Soup,madam.
G2:Great.Sounds very delicious.I’ll have it,please.
W:Fine.What would you like to drink?
G1:We aren’t very sure.
W:It doesn’t matter.I’ll help you.What sort of drink would you like?
G1:Um,I’d like a nice beer,but not too bitter.
W:Why don’t you try our wheat beer?It’s lighter and more refreshing than other beers.That’s it,over there,in that tall glass.
G1:That looks great.I’ll have one of those,please.
W:Would you like that with a slice of lemon?Some guests drink it that way.I think it tastes better without it,personally.
G1:No,I’ll have it without lemon,then,please.
W:Ok,a glass of beer without lemon.What about you madam?
G2:I’d like a soft drink.What do you have?
W:We have several kinds.I’d recommend apple juice and mineral water.
G2:En,that sounds nice.I’ll have one of those,please.
W:Would you like a large glass or a small one?
G2:A large one,please.
W:Ok,I’ll be back with your meals soon.

3.Filet mignon 菲力牛排:俗称腰内肉或里脊肉(tenderloin),是牛腰背的内侧后段肌肉,此部位运动量少,其肉质柔嫩,少筋少油,是牛排中的首选。
Sirloin steak 沙朗牛排:牛上腰部分的肉,是运动极少的部位,肉质细嫩且油花满布,口感鲜嫩。
New York strip steak 纽约客牛排:牛前腰脊肉(short loin),运动量较菲力及沙朗多,故肉质纤维较粗,耐嚼,深受众多餐客喜爱。
T-Bone steak 丁骨牛排:带丁骨的前腰脊嫩牛排,在骨头的两边,一边是大一点的纽约客,另一边是菲力牛排,可以同时吃到肉质耐嚼和细嫩的两个部分。

W:That’s the desert you’ve ordered after the main course.
G:Oh,I see.What about the 7.5 dollars?
W:For the three coffees.
G:We only had two.
W:Let me see… Oh,I’m awfully sorry,sir.I’ll have the amount changed.
G:How much is it now?
W:It makes a total of 38 dollars.Would you like to check it again?
G:No,thanks.
W:How would you like to make payments,in cash or by credit card?
G:Do you accept checks?
W:I’m sorry we don’t.We only accept credit cards and cash.
G:Then I’ll pay in cash.Here you are.
W:Here is your change and receipt.Please keep it.
