Dialogue 1 Enjoy Drinking in a Bar

(Talking about Chinese spirits)

(A:Barman B:Mr.Jackson)

A:Hello Mr.Jackson.Glad to see you again.

B:Glad to see you.

A:Which wine would you like?

B:White wine,please.

A:Here you are,sir.

B:Good.What’s the favorite Chinese wine,please?

A:Most Chinese people like spirits.When we have dinner,the most popular one is white spirit.It’s very common,especially in the north part of China and the taste of it is not bad.The best Chinese liquor is Maotai,which is special for national banquets.

B:MaoTai,is my pronunciation right?I’ll try it next time when I go to a Chinese restaurant.What other Chinese wine,please?

A:The most typical one is Shaoxing rice wine,which is made from rice and is not as strong as Maotai,a kind of mild wine.It’s popular in the south part of China.Some people even like to warm it before drinking.

B:To drink warm wine?It’s first time I have heard of that.It sounds very interesting.I seldom drink wine without ice.Cheers.

white spirit 老白干酒

make from “制造”,通常指制造后改变了材料的原来性质和状态。

make of “制造”,通常指制造后不改变材料的原性质和状态。

Dialogue 2 Singing in a KTV

A:It’s your turn now,Mark.

B:OK.I’m coming.

A:This is your song.I picked it for you.

B:Thank you.You are so considerate.

A:Push the red button on the mike to turn it on.

B:OK.This key is too high for me.

A:I think it’s a piece of cake for you.

B:Ok.Let me try.

Dialogue 3 Peking Opera

Li:Mike,Have you ever seen a Peking Opera?

Mike:Of course.Peking Opera is kind of symbol of China.I suppose every foreigner would manage to see one.

Li:Definitely.What do you think of Peking Opera?

Mike:Well,it is an admirable art and at the same time a difficult abstract art.

Li:So it is.Peking Opera synthesizes music,drama,dancing,and acrobatics along with very elaborate costumes and a minimum of props,according to traditions and customs dating back as far as the twelfth century.

Mike:Oh,I don’t know that! You guys are lucky to have such wonderful heritage.

Li:Yes,we are.But there are not many fans of Peking Opera left.Many people are worried about its future.

Mike:That is a common problem for all classic arts.But I believe there will always be some people who like it and pass it on to the next generation.

Li:So do I.Listen,let’s go to see a Peking Opera together some time!

Mike:No problem.

Dialogue 4 A Visit to Disneyland

A:I heard you just returned from Disneyland.Can you tell me something about it?

B:Sure.Are you going to take a trip?

A:That’s right.I’ll visit there with my son for a couple of days.

B:Ok,I’ll tell you what I can remember.

A:Did you see much?

B:No,I just visited some important places.You can’t see all of the amusement park in one day.

A:How big is the park?

B:About 180 acres.It has five main sections.They’re named Main Street,Frontier-land,Fantasy-land,Tomorrow-land and Adventure-land.Disneyland is often called the “Magic Kingdom”.There’re so many things to see in the park.

A:What did you enjoy most?

B:The Jungle River Boat Safari,Sleeping Beauty’s Castle,the Submarine Voyage and Tom Sawyer’s Island,were all fascinating.

A:It sounds like you had a wonderful time.

B:Yes,it sure was a happy and memorable experience for me.I’m sure you’ll enjoy your visit,too.
