⑨Psyche：普赛克，希腊神话中小爱神丘比特的妻子，后成为灵魂的化身。普赛克承诺丘比特不见其真面目，却无法忍受，点了一盏油灯偷看，丘比特发现后伤心而去。诗中即是将手持油灯的海伦比作普赛克。

爱德加·爱伦·坡（Edgar Allan Poe，1809—1849），美国浪漫主义诗人、小说家。出身贫寒，少年孤苦，一生漂泊。1827年匿名发表第一部诗集，后辗转以文为业，历任多家杂志编辑，其间渐以文学批评享誉文坛，并转向小说创作，多名篇传世，可谓侦探小说鼻祖。晚期回归诗歌，1845年发表代表诗作《乌鸦》（The Raven），轰动文坛。1849年卒，未得善终。
诗人提倡唯美主义，认为“诗就是创造美”，诗作形式精巧，语言优美。《致海伦》一诗即是其诗学思想的完美诠释。该诗写于1831年，1845年改定，据传是为一位同学的母亲斯丹娜夫人所作。诗中将其对古典美人海伦的倾慕与景仰合二为一，最后升华为对艺术，甚至是对真、善、美的无尽追求，展示了诗人的美好心灵和高尚情操。该诗第一节由远及近，写整体感受，“归航”一图，使人顿生美感；第二节近观细览，赏其秀发与风姿，却不着碎语，继而笔锋一转，提升境界，将对美人之爱恋化作对古希腊、罗马之崇敬，遂成佳句；第三节由近及远，眼界渐开，意境渐高，终成名篇。该诗以美铸诗，引经据典，意象凝练，结构紧凑，和谐统一，可谓已臻化境。
该诗共分三节，每节五行，遵循四步抑扬格，韵脚为ababb，cdcdc，effef。第一节结尾用长元音/犻：/、/a：/，娴静舒缓，相映成趣；第二节以长元音加辅音结尾，音韵和谐，绕梁不绝；第三节以双元音/a狌/开头，并以短元音加辅音结尾，响亮清脆，如珠落盘。全诗音韵错落有致，余韵绵长，烘托了古典美之高贵典雅、安详悠远。
