Dear Mr.Clarke,
After successfully using your agency formany years,I recently experienced a terrible problem.I am writing to get compensation for a huge mistake for which I believe your firm is responsible.
On October 1,I used Claude Travel to book my honeymoon trip to Hawaii.Your agent,Jiang Lei,made all of the arrangements for us.She booked my husband and me on the CAAC Airlines flight to Honolulu(Flight555)on October 14,which was scheduled to arrive at 6:00 a.m.on themorning of October 15.Ourtimely arrival was essential,aswewere scheduled to join a tour group which began its journey on the afternoon of October 15.
Upon our arrival at the Hong Kong Airport,we discovered that our reservations had not been confirmed and the airline had overbooked the flight.Sadly,we were unable to get seats on the plane,which was the last CAAC Airlines flight to Hawaii that day.Wewere reluctant to book seats on another airline,aswe had already paid for this trip in full,using a Visa card(account#3374 7796 0039 3102).Our card was charged,yetwe had no flight.Unfortunately,our credit limit was inadequate to book a different flight on another airline.
Wemissed our flight to Hawaii,and our tour group's departure in Honolulu.Instead of lying on a peaceful beach,we spent our firstmarried days in the Airport hotel in Hong Kong,trying to sortout thismess.Wewere unable to speak with Ms.Jiang Lei until Monday,October 16,which was two days after our scheduled departure.She was extremely apologetic,but could not explain what had caused the problem.She was unable to book us on another flight to Hawaii on such short notice,but did offer to clear our credit card of all charges.She offered us no further explanations or compensation.
We planned this trip for over a year and were excited about visiting Hawaiion our honeymoon.Ms.Jiang Lei's mistake cost us our once-in-a-lifetime chance to fulfill an important personal dream.In fact,we notonlymissed the trip;butwe are still fighting to get back our deposits at the hotel in Honolulu!
Because your agency caused the problems,we expect you to work with us to get a satisfactory resolution.Specifically,we expect you to:
1)Give back to us the RMB 4,540 in deposit thatwe are unable to get back from the Honolulu Hilton Islander Hotel;
2)Give back to us themoney for the two nights we spent at the Hong Kong Airport Hotel(RMB 2,460)
3)Provide uswith two first class round-trip tickets on a flight to Hawaiiwhich will be good for the next calendar year(dates of travel to be our choice).
Your agency can't give us back ourwedding trip,butwe expect you to provide a future trip without any bookingmistake.We also expect a full apology from Ms.Jiang Lei.
Please callme before November 15 with confirmation that our requestswill be honored.If I don't hear from you,Iwill report you to the appropriate regulatory agencies in China.
Sincerely,
Jane Myers
