The foundation pit of Zhuhai City Plaza collapsed around 12：20 on July 21st，2005.The pit had been put into construction since October 2002，but suspended several times during the course until it collapsed on July 21，2005，which lasted 2 years and 9 months.
After the collapse on the south side of the foundation pit，the strut at southeast corner failed，causing the east 20 m deep retaining wall unsupported，and posing a threat to the safety of the surrounding environment（as shown in Figure 13.6）.The foundation piles of the Seafarer Hotel at the south of collapsed pit were broken and displaced，and the cap was suspended in the air，resulting in the building collapse near the foundation pit（as shown in Figure 13.7）；the foundation pile of the residential building No.1 near the pit was exposed and failed，and soil under the caps were hollowed out（as shown in Figure 13.8）.
