Achievement Motivation Theory
David C.McClelland,a professor at Harvard University, who published series of articles in the 1950s on human needs and motivations, has found that high achievement demanders have three main features.Firstly, the high achievement demanders like to set moderately challenging goals;they do not enjoy the success of luck, nor accept very easy or particularly difficult tasks. They are not content to drift aimlessly and take things as they come, but always want to make a difference.Secondly, the high achievement demanders would also tend to avoid excessive difficulty in choosing goals.Thirdly, high achievement demanders prefer tasks which can give them immediate feedback(McClelland,1987).
Based on McClelland’s achievement motivation theory, this training is designed to break down the Chinese character practice into several short-term goals.Through intensive training directed at achieving each short-term goal and the timely feedback on any problems encountered, the ultimate goal of cultivating the writing inertia of Chinese character beginners can be achieved.
