Pre-and Post-DPC Chinese-Character-Writing Training—A Comparison

In this section,we compare the results of the questionnaires conducted before and after the DPC Chinese-character-writing training in order to find out the training effect.The questions,answers and comparisons are listed as follows:

Question 3:Please describe the attitude towards Chinese character writing by choosing one of the following:Like;Moderate;or Do not like.

Question 5:Please rate how satisfied you are with your Chinese writing skills after the training and if they are happy about the progress,they made with the following three options:Great progress;Some progress;or No progress.

Question 6:Describe how confident you are in your Chinese handwriting ability with the following three options:Very confident;Moderate;or Not confident.

Question 9:Please indicate whether you are willing to put efforts to improve their Chinese character writing,and use“Very much so”,“Perhaps”or“Not at all”as options and state why.

Fig.9.1 indicates students’attitude feedback before and after the DPC Chinese-character-writing training method.As can be seen from question 3 chart,after the training,students’attitude towards Chinese character writing,recognition of their character writing ability,confidence in their handwriting of Chinese characters,and also enthusiasm for handwriting of Chinese characters in the future have all improved.According to the above four charts,the number of students who like Chinese characters writing increased from 37% before practice to 58%after practice.The number of students who did not like Chinese character writing dropped from 35%to 7%after the training.The number of students who think their Chinese character writing ability is good or improved increased from 15% before the training to 45% after the DPC Chinesecharacter-writing training.

Also from the figure,we can see that the number of students who thought Chinese character writing ability was bad dropped from 45%before the training to 3%after the training;and at the same time,students’confidence in their handwritten Chinese characters also improved significantly from only 8%before the training to 48%after the training.What is more encouraging is that 47%of the studentssaid that they had no confidence in Chinese character writing before the training,but this number dropped to 0 after the training.The last chart(Question 9)shows whether the students are willing to continue to practice Chinese character writing.According to the statistical results,the enthusiasm of the students is still high.The number of students who choose“Very much so”and“Perhaps”increased,while the number of students who indicate“Not at all”decreases from 9% before training to 5% after the DPC Chinese-characterwriting training.

Fig.9.2 indicates the problems students encountered in character writing practice before and after the training.Black bars show the problems encountered before the training and grey bars show the remaining problems after training.According to the chart,there were 13 major problems in Chinese writing before the training,but only 4 major ones have remained afterwards.In addition,about 25%of the students said there were no more problems left for them.
