Translation Awareness—Introduction of Writing T...
For the first time,in undergraduate translation training, the notion and practice of writing translation appraisal—Translator’s Notes—is introduced. The rationale behind it is that for better appraisal of a translated text,it is crucial that the translator or the learner learns to give critical appraisal so as to analyze the languages concerned from lexical, syntactical and cultural perspectives. In this“translation awareness”training, learners come to realize that the otherwise ugly,inferior,non-idiomatic and corrupt target language they created is actually creative and critical expression of multiple meanings representing their true thoughts.Such practical training also helps creates Translanguaging Space(Li,2011)where new identities, new subjectivities, and new ideologies are being constituted and reconstituted.Apart from creating a third space at social and linguistic level, learners also enter a dimension in which they can appreciate the historical, political, and ideological sensitivities and impacts of the translanguaging efforts they exerted.
